Design Wall Monday

I was lucky to take a class from Bonnie Hunter at Road to California. I set my alarm for midnight the day that registration opened, so that I could make sure to get a spot in one of her classes. Other people in the class did the same thing, but they registered for two or three of her classes. I wanted to, but I didn't want to be greedy.

The class was her Jared Takes a Wife pattern. The block's traditional name is Blackford's Beauty. I've gotten the main body of the quilt and the first three plain borders on. Unfortunately, in our new smaller house I don't have a way to take a good picture of my progress.

I used neutral sashing, because I wanted the green chain to be more pronounced. I like quilts with stars and chains

This is what I'm hoping it will look like when it's finished. I have the pieced border blocks stitched, but not sewn together. That is my job for the next day or so.

I'm going to try some fancy quilting. If it turns out nice, I'm going to enter it into the Machine Quilter's Showcase.

  4. Super job on the Jared Takes a Wife. Really nice color choices -- the green looks great. And, don't you just love your Nolting. I've got an 18" which is fine for what I do.

  10. I am new to Bonnie Hunter's patterns but they are so great for scrap quilts. Your's is very nice. This is one I'd like to do. the green chains just draw the eye all around or rather corner to corner.

  11. I really like the neutral sashing - as you said, it brings out the green chain. I am also making one of these but I left out the sashing for an entirely different look. Amazing how one great pattern can turn out beautiful in so many different ways. I'm sew jealous you got to take a class with Bonnie!

  12. That Bonnie Hunter! Too bad there aren't 3 of her! I got up at 5 am to register for her Road classes but you know. . . Took Darlene Zimmerman and Joen Wolfren instead and learned a lot! Your quilt is FABulous!
