Baking Bread

I love baking bread. For many years I baked all of our bread. Loaves, baguettes, pita bread, English muffins, hamburger and hot dog buns. I loved it all.

Then the kids grew up and moved out. My Dear Motorcycle Dude and I didn't need as much bread. My sourdough starter died of neglect. It was sad, very sad.

Then, I was browsing the King Arthur Flour catalog and saw sourdough starter. I couldn't resist. I ordered it. I read the information on the care and feeding of sourdough starter. Feed the starter within 24 hours of receipt of the starter. Ok, I can do that. I waited, semi-patiently, for the email announcing shipment of my order.

I got the email! Yeah, it was coming. Oh no! It was going to be delivered while I was scheduled to be in California. That meant my Dear Motorcycle Dude was going to have to feed my starter. I printed the information so that he could feed and care for my precious starter. He did, and he did a wonderful job. I shouldn't have worried at all.

I've been back for a little over a week. I've used it to make pizza crust. Yummy!

Today, I'm making hamburger buns and small round loaves.

Here is the dough rising.

And now, time for dinner!

Bad Dog Strikes Again

The other night when I was going to bed I decided to try leaving Bad Dog out of her crate. I hoped she had outgrown her naughty ways.

I had a cone of Bottom Line Thread drop on the floor. I didn't notice that it dropped. However, Bad Dog did notice. My dear Motorcycle Dude found this outside the next morning.

Alas, Bad Dog is not reformed.
